As environmental segment lead, I am passionate about helping the environment because it is crucial to all species surviving on this planet. My passion for it is strongly influenced by my science background- specifically astronomy- because it keeps reinforcing the fact that Earth is the only home we have. I’ve always been a lover of nature and believe that we live on the most beautiful planet we’ve ever discovered. Our fragile environment is not only crucial to our survival, but to all the countless species that share our planet as well. Without it, nothing else we do matters because we literally can’t survive without being sustainable. The more people care, the greater the impact. So I take it upon myself to be a catalyst to influence others in something as urgent as creating a more sustainable future for our planet.
The greatest joy I get out of leading events is seeing how much people really do care. Sometimes I feel like I’m fighting an uphill battle and fighting it alone. When I see the great turnout at these events and the great conversations we have while we do our work, it gives me hope! I’m not a leader with C3GB for the sake of my ego in leading others. I couldn’t care less about that. My purpose on this planet is to make the world a better place for all living beings. So, by leading others into a good path, I am helping to fulfill that purpose.
I am busy, but I can’t live a life that doesn’t give back to this planet. We are all here because of it. It would be a travesty to not try to make it better, especially because I can. I am a lucky human who doesn’t struggle for basic things. How then could I not devote even some of my time to giving back? There is no way someone is THAT busy that they can’t take a few hours of their time every so often to help our world. Furthermore, you learn to be a better person and leader when you do so, so there’s nothing to gain but good things from being a leader.
C3GB has already created such a vast network of people from all walks of life that come together for a common cause. I certainly don’t have that type of network on my own to organize these events and get it to enough people. Although I do believe that even a single person can make a difference, it’s even better when we all come together collectively to make the world a better place!
This group gives volunteers a variety of volunteer options. I think that’s awesome! The easier it is to give back, the more people are inclined to helping. Since we bring the events to our members, turnouts are greater and more work gets done.
