There is no place like home. These famous words ring true with all of us. Yet, we live in a way that directly contradicts it. Barring some major scientific breakthrough, we currently only have one home, and our day-to-day actions are slowly but surely making it unsafe to live in. Precious resources like water and fresh air have not been found anywhere else in the known universe, yet we pollute them like they will last forever. This kind of activity destroys the beautiful diversity of life we enjoy and puts into jeopardy our very existence.
When you combine this with the fact that pure nature is simply stunning, it’s hard to not get frustrated about what’s happening.
We don’t treat our houses like this, so why do we treat the planet so poorly? What can we do about it? How can we make people care?
We believe that part of this issue deals with the “out of sight, out of mind” we have. Environmental degradation is occurring all around us, but sometimes it’s hard to see. Our work with this cause brings this issue up close and personal to our volunteers so they can see the impact we as humans have on the planet and can begin to understand their role in protecting it.
These moments tend to be special and full of self reflection. Protecting the planet comes with a “be the change you want to see in the world” mentality. By giving the opportunity to see how their efforts to conserve can make the world a better place, we are taking critical steps into protecting our one and only home.
